Evolution vs. Creationism Club

Creationism is religion, not science

Creationism is religion, not science

Saw a news item recently whilst search through my r4 card for some documents, about creationism being a religion. It got me thinking so I researched the idea that creationism is a religion and not a science.

Creationism is the belief that all life and things in the universe were created by a supernatural higher power such as God. The creation of life by God in creationism is a supernatural act described in the Book of Genesis. The fact that creationism references a religious text puts it firmly in the religious realm, thereby making it religion, and not science.

There has been a move towards “creation science”which tries to offer scientific explanations for creationism, essentially using scientific terminology to describe events from religious text. In doing so, creation science comes in direct conflict with accepted scientific knowledge, especially that pertaining to evolution and cosmology. Creation science is firmly rooted in religion, as it uses scientific language, but not fact, to explain the creation of life on Earth, often ignoring proven scientific facts backed by scientific evidence.

Across the board, scientists have categorized creationism and creation science as religion, and not science, because of the lack of scientific empirical evidence. Creationism’s main view hinges on the supernatural, with a supernatural event creating all life and matter. Science is involved with the study and observation of natural events in the world, through repeatable, controllable experiments. Given this, science cannot explain the supernatural.

Creationism, with its supernatural roots, is therefore not science. The supernatural cannot be controlled or repeated, which means it cannot be proven scientifically.

Proof is impossible...unless you read the proof

There are some things in life that can be definitively proven: the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, how many marbles are in a particular jar, how old I am. Even how much alcohol is in my system can be fairly easily determined through hair alcohol testing. And scientists can demonstrate the age of the universe through carbon dating and other means; and it’s possible to demonstrate the truth of the theory of natural selection through fossil evidence as well as observation.

I was reading a National Geographic article a few weeks ago which reported on a Russian genetic experiment which bred wolves and foxes and artificially selected individuals for breeding on the grounds of their adaptability to human company. This isn’t definitely a proof of the theory of natural selection of course – it’s an experiment in artificial selection which is designed to explore the way in which humans and domesticated animals may have come together. But it’s a demonstration of the fact that the behaviour and even the nature of organisms can change according to circumstances.

What does this tell us? For a start, it would seem to demolish the creationist argument that the world and the universe were created in more or less the way we have them now. It doesn’t necessarily disprove the idea of a God – after all, Darwin himself was a Christian – and it seems silly for people to criticise the idea of religion as such. But the “creationist”argument doesn’t quite stand up if we look at the world and see it for what it is.

Birth pain

I am a very strong believer of creation and I hate the idea of evolution. Well, evolving your lips in a botox London office to hot lips is 100% acceptable though. From my childhood I was taught that God created everything from nothing and nothing is there that was not created by God. May it be plants, animals, planets or us, human beings. The church I went to for my Sunday school was very serious about teaching the creation theory, so thinking about anything else than creation was a sinful thought for me and being with people who believed in evolution was to be with the corrupt souls.

Epic Battle: Evolution vs Creation

Every human on Earth is trying to find a logical answer at this inevitable question: did god create us or are we the product of evolution? Everyone is trying to find out some information about the origins of Earth, humanity, life or the universe. There still are people who think that God created all what we see today, in spite of the evidence that indicates the answer is evolution. However, this dispute started a long time ago and it doesn’t seem to end any soon.

The Endless Discussion

Throughout time, there have been endless debates on whether the Earth was flat or round; on whether we evolved from monkeys or from Adam and Eve. The discussions get so tiring and stressful than it can even make couples file in for divorce. Well, if you find yourself in a point where you cannot decide who is right, I am sure that there are plenty of divorce lawyers who are right now saying try here for help with your divorce.

Returning to more serious things, the problems creationists have with evolutionists seems to be bothering the entire world. Ever since we are old enough to go out and have a chat with our friends, we all tend to dwell in such endless conversations, debating over who is right and why. Unfortunately, we get caught in a spider’s web and it seems impossible to get away at times. If you have a friend who always starts the discussion about God, you should really do something about it and maybe… find another friend.

Get over it!

Frankly, it despairs me that we are continuing to have this debate. A few hundred years ago, when people still weren’t sure what shape the Earth was, it was forgivable that people believed in some higher power. The same applies to people of remote civilisations today. If you have not been furnished by a rational explanation you can get your head around, then fantasy seems as good an explanation as any.

The choices we make

This is one debate that has been raging ever since a certain Mr. Darwin came up with his version of creation. Admittedly, it does appear the closest when compared to all other theories that have been doing the rounds. And theories there have been aplenty. Just that this particular gentleman gave it a scientific twist to make it seem more authentic. The ancient Mayans had their own theory while the Hindus have theirs. So do the followers of Buddhism and Jainism. Every religion will have its own version. Some accepted, others secretly derided.

The concept from Hell

At the heart of the theory of evolution lies man’s rebellion against God. God created man after he had created everything else, symbolizing man’s supremacy over everything. Everything created by God was under man and for man. Only God was above man. However, we human beings are never satisfied with what we have and we always desire for more. In man’s attempt to become more he forfeited his place of supremacy and gifted it to God’s archrival, Lucifer.

Ancient Beliefs Modern Principles

What I love most about the Occupy London Stock Exchange protest in front of St Pauls is the big banners draped from tents that say “What Would Jesus Do?” These are hand made out of cloth and clearly not done at a large format printing shop, but they open up an important debate about the nature of the church and religious beliefs in an era of great change. Religion is about faith, and Christianity is about believing in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, so can you take part of it and leave the rest behind? If the church expects its practitioners to have the faith to believe the the earth was created by an almighty power, surely it should have the faith to stand up to corporate interests and corporate greed?

Reverse Evolution

Reverse Evolution

Evolution versus Creation is one of the all time longest running debate on the face of the planet Earth. It is a debate between Science and Religion. While religion deals mostly with the emotions and the heart of mankind, science is the product of its brain. Therefore the debate is between man’s own heart and brain. We all have conflicting ideas in ourselves, but we only bring out the ones that would make us popular or at least make us look good in front of our own eyes.

I am from a family of very simple handymen from a very small town and I am certainly not an atheist, so officially speaking I believe in creation. But even my religious and God worshipping mind at times wonder at the fundamentals on which the whole theory of evolution is based upon. The very fact that we have appendix, which is not needed by our body, and the only thing it does is occasionally kill us due to a deadly disease makes me wonder why God would put something in us that was not be needed in the first place. Was evolution for us created beings or was God evolving with His creative skills.

As long as I live I will only believe that man was created by God, and may be people around me evolved, but I am a descendant of a man who was created directly by God himself and God did not need a monkey to create man. I think there could be a reverse evolution happening, where some men evolved down to become monkeys and apes and may be the ones who believe in evolution are on the second stage of evolution.
