Why I Believe In Evolution

Evolution is the transformation or change in the traits inherited by an organism as the genes are passed from one generation to another. This belief that man evolved from prehistoric creature has sparked many a controversy. This was greatly multiplied by Darwin’s ‘On The Origin Of Species’ which offered his theory explaining natural selection and evolution. Here are some of the reasons why I believe in evolution.

The first is that there are diverse lines of evidence form a number of fields that touch on human life and existence. These fields include anthropology, history, paleontology, geology, botany and zoology. There is evidence found in fossil records from different parts of the world to indicate that at various stages of the earth’s history, humans and animals underwent changes as time passed.

Another reason for me is the common chemical and anatomical similarities in living things. This is also evidenced by the fact that all living things have the ability to create a complex structure.

Evolution also explains the various aspects of life passed down from one generation to another. This was further emphasized by Mendel when he found out that traits are passed down in a predictable manner. This indicated that natural selection among the various forms of life on earth has led to the shaping of some of the traits we see in animals and plants. The diversity in the forms of life can be explained by evolution as it indicates that as the environment constantly changes, the species also underwent various changes and mutations to be what they are today.

Evolution has enabled me to understand various aspects of life that I would otherwise not, as it has opened a number of avenues through the various mechanism and forced me to look outside the cardboard packaging. Some aspects such as extinction in terms of competition between various species for the limited resources is clearer to me now through the explanations of evolution.
