Frankly, it despairs me that we are continuing to have this debate. A few hundred years ago, when people still weren’t sure what shape the Earth was, it was forgivable that people believed in some higher power. The same applies to people of remote civilisations today. If you have not been furnished by a rational explanation you can get your head around, then fantasy seems as good an explanation as any.

However, this is not the world most of us live in. We have grown up with science and even creationists use it every day. Surely then it is time to stop believing in the adult equivalent of the tooth fairy.

Most religious people only believe in God because of childhood indoctrination. If it were illegal to tell children your superstitions, you would find very few adults who would choose to join later. Of course, there are adults who turn to religion later in life. I know a bloke who works in pest control in Hereford who ‘found God'in his 50s but, in his case, like in most others, it came about because of a crisis in his life. Almost all born-again believers start from this point. The reasons vary but commonly alcohol or drug addiction, homelessness and/or abject poverty are involved.

The worst thing is that religion plays on this. The 10-step programme for Alcoholics Anonymous includes letting God into your life, for example. Such proselytising tactics have always existed, of course, and rarely is it pleasant. From the Crusades through to missionary work in Africa or South America, it all comes down to the same thing: if you want us to be nice to you, start believing in God. No. Start behaving like decent human beings to people in need without forcing your religion upon us. Then I’ll take your charity more seriously.

This is one debate that has been raging ever since a certain Mr. Darwin came up with his version of creation. Admittedly, it does appear the closest when compared to all other theories that have been doing the rounds. And theories there have been aplenty. Just that this particular gentleman gave it a scientific twist to make it seem more authentic. The ancient Mayans had their own theory while the Hindus have theirs. So do the followers of Buddhism and Jainism. Every religion will have its own version. Some accepted, others secretly derided.

To find out more on this, one needs to step back in time to get a fuller grasp on things. The Bible clearly tells us that man rebelled against God. The root of all theories stems from this rebellion that is still instilled in all of mankind. Some realise that rebellion against God is pointless. This evokes a desire to know more and draw closer to God. Others incite that rebellion to greater heights and move further away from God. And since it’s rebellion, anything goes; even monkeys. And since we cannot physically see God but can see monkeys, the tendency is to lean towards the monkey.

With God, it’s a different ball game altogether. Everything is based on faith. Now that’s something that is not as tangible as a monkey and leads most people on the path of ‘can see, will follow’. People who believe that God created us, have a faith that cannot easily be shaken – however in depth science tries to analyse the whole thing. Point is, Lucifer, Satan, devil or what have you, has just one objective: move you away from God. Period. Be it with the ruse of monkeys, aliens or whatever. Noah’s ark was considered a myth until it was discovered by archaeologist Ron Charles. It was exactly the same dimensions and build as described in the Bible. Now who would you believe – a monkey or the Bible?

At the heart of the theory of evolution lies man’s rebellion against God. God created man after he had created everything else, symbolizing man’s supremacy over everything. Everything created by God was under man and for man. Only God was above man. However, we human beings are never satisfied with what we have and we always desire for more. In man’s attempt to become more he forfeited his place of supremacy and gifted it to God’s archrival, Lucifer.

I know many of you reading this might be thinking that I am going to type in the same old story. Yes, part of it will be the same old story, but the story is true and repeating what is true will only help us to give thought to it. Most of our lives are consumed by trying to fulfill our daily requirements. We seldom get time to think about life and the deeper meaning of it. As we wake up we think about work, once we are at work we think about the targets we need to meet and about feeding our various kinds of hunger. As a supplier at red diesel Wakefield I meet all kinds of people. Sometimes it is very boring at work and I wish to chat with someone and most of the times it is the older ones who would be interested in a chat. The best thing about chatting with old people is that they have seen life and now have time to think about the deeper meaning of life. And trust me, most of the old people don’t believe in evolution because if they do, then it would mean that in some time they are going to vanish.

It is cool to believe in evolution when you are young, but even the thought of it is scary when you are old. Science has given us many good things and bad things; I think the theory of evolution is worse than the sin committed in the Garden of Eden. It is a concept from hell, specially designed to further fool mankind.

What is remarkable is asking the church to be accountable for its beliefs, even if you don’t necessarily agree with them. It is entirely hypocritical to believe that all life is sacred, yet at the same time support the death penalty. It is breathtakingly beautiful to watch the visual displays of the protests asking the church to be accountable as a moral force in an immoral world.

It is obvious that some of the protesters have a solid background in graphic design and are able to create sophisticated displays like the monopoly set pictured above, making use of the best technology available, others do carry a very heart felt message like the person who dressed as Jesus and reminded us all of what he actually did do in his life time. Historically, I have believed in evolution, as an educated person. I also believe in the magical and the mystical, so I don’t discount the possibility of a supreme being who got this beautiful experience called life under way. The Church has an amazing opportunity here to attract people and act with a higher moral order, I hope they don’t waste it.

Evolution versus Creation is one of the all time longest running debate on the face of the planet Earth. It is a debate between Science and Religion. While religion deals mostly with the emotions and the heart of mankind, science is the product of its brain. Therefore the debate is between man’s own heart and brain. We all have conflicting ideas in ourselves, but we only bring out the ones that would make us popular or at least make us look good in front of our own eyes.

I am from a family of very simple handymen from a very small town and I am certainly not an atheist, so officially speaking I believe in creation. But even my religious and God worshipping mind at times wonder at the fundamentals on which the whole theory of evolution is based upon. The very fact that we have appendix, which is not needed by our body, and the only thing it does is occasionally kill us due to a deadly disease makes me wonder why God would put something in us that was not be needed in the first place. Was evolution for us created beings or was God evolving with His creative skills.

As long as I live I will only believe that man was created by God, and may be people around me evolved, but I am a descendant of a man who was created directly by God himself and God did not need a monkey to create man. I think there could be a reverse evolution happening, where some men evolved down to become monkeys and apes and may be the ones who believe in evolution are on the second stage of evolution.

I must confess that I find the debate between evolution and creationism to be nothing but an academic issue that is fun when one does not have anything else to do. I start discussing evolution and creationism with my friends every time I lose my R4 card for my Nintendo gaming console.

Past experiences have helped me conclude that people have absolutely no idea why they are supporting evolution over creationism or vice versa. Many persons feel that not doing so will make them look unscientific. On the other hand, those who support creationism do so because they are afraid that God will punish them for not speaking in his or her favor. I often wonder why we cannot settle the debate by concluding that God created the first living organism and that we evolved from the same.

Things would be a lot simpler if we adopted such an approach to all the major problems in our lives. However, most individuals insist on complicating matters by pointing out that God surely must have the ability to create something lot more than just basic organisms. Darwin is no longer around to wonder why people are so keen on defending his theory as if their life depends on it. God has never been around and probably does not understand why people spend so much time fighting in His or Her name.

I often play the role of the moderator in this discussion between my friends and do my level best to look interested. On the whole, I am convinced that God must have created this debate so that I don’t have to feel bored when my gaming console is not working properly.

I didn’t want to bring these concerns home with me. I would rather have been the kind of person who could get home from a place like that and return to mindless meaninglessness, staying up late and looking at a discount displays homepage like woot.com. But, being a person of relative integrity, I kept struggling with these issues throughout the summer, and I still struggle with them today.

How does this relate to evolution and creationism? Easy. If God is involved directly in the system, if God in fact created the system, then He can be held theologically accountable for the way it works. If, however, there is no God, and if the world works on a random basis, then horrible genetic disorders are almost easier to accept. They’re still terrible, but if they’re random, at least no benevolent, omniscient and omnipotent God allowed them to happen.

If it matters, I had the same inner turmoil when I watched The Land Before Time. If God loves man and wants man to prosper, why would He also put dinosaurs who eat man in the world?

Creationism all the way.

The influence of mobile technology on science and religion has been evident for quite some time with a report published by the BBC back in 2005 showing just how much both sides are taking advantage. An SMS bible is a perfect way to reach the younger generation a lot of Christians would argue. Science on the other hand would denigrate it as a cloying and pathetic use of technology to further the advance of an archaic and outmoded code of living. Whichever side you agree with, mobiles are being used to chair these issues.

Impartial, unfeeling and wholly fair, mobiles have no say in the argument providing science and religion a platform on which to mount their arguments. Mobiles are allowing people to reach each other on a scale never before seen throughout the entirety of human history.

Religion may attack science and vice versa, but you could argue that religion is contradicting itself as it uses the same technology science created in order to denigrate it. Science on the other hand fails to understand that religion in a lot of cases paved the way for scientific discovery allowing great advances to be made in the name of God.

Whichever side you take, there is a case to argue that science and religion are closer then you think.

The longest running debate over the centuries is the debate on evolution vs. creation. There are two views religious and scientific. The religious view supports creation whereas the scientific view supports evolution. The debate is all about the Bible being clear about God the creator created the universe in 6 days out of nothing. The first verse in the Bible Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and earth” and there after animals, plants and at last man. It’s the great Charles Darwin who came up with a theory of natural selection which was proposed in1858. According to him the human beings originated from apes. If this was true my question is why evolution stopped now. If evolution was still in progress it would surprises me to see human beings change into something else. It is also said before Charles Darwin’s death he deeply regretted for his gravest discovery. Being religious I strongly believe that there is supreme power and it’s God who is the supreme power who created the universe out of nothing.

There is one debate that has driven me crazy over the last several years. It is because there are people on both sides who just like to call each other idiots and don’t want to listen to what each side says. I believe my hair is falling out and I might need to get a hair loss treatment because of this debate. The debate I am talking about of course is the creation versus evolution debate.

Even amongst Christian believers there are a wide variety of thoughts on the subject of creation. It is not just a debate between Christians and Atheists but this debate is also popular amongst fellow believers. There are basically two main views amongst those who espouse to believe in creationism (Christian View). They are the view of a young earth and the view of an old earth.

The Young Earth View:

The primary belief of the young earth view is that the universe and the earth are young but God had given them an appearance of age. Fossils also came about because of the flood of Noah in this view. This is also the view that believes the earth was created in a literal six days according to the account in Genesis.

The Old Earth View:

The other view that is widely espoused by believers is that of old earth creationism. As the name sounds, those who believe this view believe that the earth was created a long time ago.

Within the Old Earth view are several particular views of creation.

They are:

• The Gap Theory: This view states that there was a pre-adamic creation that was destroyed after the fall of Satan and God made the world we live in after 6 days.

• The Day-Age Theory: The six days of creation are seen as epochs representing thousands or even millions of years of time.

• Theistic Evolution- Everything evolved from lower species but God began it all.

As you can see those who want to pit this debate as just about Atheism and religion are mistaken. This is a debate about how we got here and will continue for as long as man is on this earth because we weren’t there when it all began.
